Congressional leaders are currently reviewing a policy on whether to pass a stand-alone tax credit for energy storage. That means the time is now to mobilize and ensure the success of this bill.

According to the Energy Storage Association, your best course of action to encourage the passing of this policy is to reach out to your member of Congress and they recommend using this contact tool to do so:

The ESA has also written up a user-friendly template that you can personalize with your company’s information. Here’s a copy of that template:

I am writing today to urge you to tell your Congressional leadership to include the investment tax credit (ITC) for energy storage (S. 1142 / H.R. 2096) in any end-of-year tax package.

=== INSERT INFO ON YOUR COMPANY; FOR EXAMPLE: My company, [name], employs [#] people to develop energy storage projects for electric grid service in [state/district].

Passing the storage ITC is a common-sense policy that will drive more clean energy, expand U.S. jobs, and grow our economy.

As a member of the energy storage industry doing business in your backyard, I ask that you make sure Speaker Pelosi, House Minority Leader McCarthy, Senate Majority Leader McConnell, and Senate Minority Leader Schumer make a deal on energy tax that includes a storage ITC. Thank you for your consideration.

The 30% ITC mentioned above includes all forms of energy storage production and delivery. Formally, it is titled the “Energy Storage Tax Incentive and Deployment Act (S. 1142 & H.R. 2096).”

The ESA is also encouraging supporters to share their stories in the media and use the #StorageITC hashtag to gain exposure.

According to the ESA, this policy will help modernize infrastructure, create jobs and fuel the economy–not to mention the environmental and climate benefits that will come with an increase in clean energy. Learn more here.
