Dynapower and Rapid Power Corporation bring over 110 years of combined experience in supplying SCR and Diode rectifiers to the marketplace. Our conservative approach to design provides our customers the most efficient and reliable power conversion units on the market today. Our rectifier designs ensure years of maintenance-free operation and an operating lifetime that is well in excess of that of our competitors. This conservative approach allows us to provide an industry leading 5-year limited warranty.
Dynapower and Rapid Power have extensive experience in providing SCR and Diode rectifiers for a wide variety of applications that include general metal finishing, anodizing, water treatment, crane duty, electrochemical applications, battery applications, etc. and have advanced some of the latest developments in power conversion technology.
We offer a wide array of proven, standard designs with an extensive sales and engineering departments that are ready to assist our customers in developing custom solutions to meet the cooling, space, and control requirements best suited for a specific environment and application.
The following are examples of typically requested control configurations. Dynapower and Rapid are committed to working with each customer on an individual basis to ensure your control requirements are satisfied. Please contact us to discuss your control needs.
Optional control configurations available including, but not limited to analog I/O, serial communication options, Ethernet, and custom controls.
Our VPI transformers are conservatively designed to provide an efficient, low temperature rise transformer that offers the customer optimum performance. Transformer coils are wound using only electrolytically pure copper and are vacuum pressure impregnated then baked to cure. All coils are wound for stress distribution under fault conditions to provide superior mechanical strength.
Transformer cores are constructed using low loss, high quality, grain-oriented M6 silicon steel. This core material provides excellent flux transfer and limits eddy current losses. Specialty steel for custom applications is also available.
Semi-conductors employed in our rectifying assemblies are selected to operate at an extremely conservative utilization level of less than 50% of the device rating. This conservative approach coupled with an oversized cooling system ensures low junction temperatures on the semiconductor devices and provides long term, reliable operation.
Dynapower and Rapid Power’s attention to detail in the design and construction of the cooling systems ensure that heat generated during normal operation is effectively removed from each component. Our conservative design approach substantially increases the reliability, providing our customers with rectifying systems that are virtually maintenance free.

Direct water-cooling of the transformer-rectifier system is the most effective means of removing heat for the SCR assemblies and high current bussing. Our use of deep-hole drilled copper heat sinks provides an advantage over manufacturers that employ single sided water-cooling systems. The double side cooling approach using parallel water-paths to remove heat eliminates the thermal gradients that can lead to premature device degradation, hence increasing the lifetime of semiconductors.
Air-cooled units use totally enclosed ball bearing motors to drive shrouded fan blades, delivering a maximum volume of air over the heat sinks and transformer. Thyristors are mounted on extruded, finned aluminum heat sinks, manufactured to Dynapower and Rapid Power’s exact specifications. The mounting surfaces for the semi-conductors are micro-machined to a 65-micron flatness and a thin layer of thermally conductive grease is applied for optimum heat transfer. Our conservative approach provides 30% more surface area to the device, allowing maximum heat transfer and reliable performance even in high ambient temperature areas.
An internal sub-panel separates electrical control components such as contactors, relays and electronics from the air stream.
Cabinetry is heavy-duty industrial design with formed structural members attached to a welded angle iron base frame. All panels are manufactured using 14 gauge steel and the enclosure is finished inside and outside by degreasing and acid resistant enamel paint. Various NEMA ratings are available to meet the ingress protection rating best suited for your application.
